I Am's (and other life defining statements)

This is the title for one of the chapters in my book. Here is the question posed:

How does allowing other people to say; "you are this, you are not this" or "you can do this or you can't do this" take the power of defining your own life away from you?

Post away below! Thanks in advance for your help :D

Love to you all

Hmmm..... You know, you kinda answer the question when you wrote it. The only way I can really think of answering this is with a quote, of which, you probably already have to much of, but it still came to mind...

You must have control of the authorship of your own destiny. The pen that writes your life story must be held in your own hand.

In other words, as I percieve it, You can't live by boundaries someone else has set for you. We grow up learning right from wrong, but our gift of free agency is what makes us who we are.

-Nice idea for the blog, good luck with the book.

Wow, deep question. Someone is placing a label on you and you don't have control over it. I had a personal experience with this once that really bothered me. I think you need to take the positive of that label and make it a good thing. In my case I was told I can be a pushover because sometimes I'd rather not fight the fight. Upset about it, I talked to my brother and he explained to me that I'm not a pushover, I'm a peacemaker. Sometimes it's not worth fighting because it won't get anywhere.

This may or may not help. Great idea, good luck with it!

Also - to answer your question - How does allowing other people to say; "you are this, you are not this" or "you can do this or you can't do this" take the power of defining your own life away from you?

I think feedback is always good... but I think ultimately that we decide our own destiny. We decide the thoughts that go through our mind and we decide how we are going to look at life on a day to day basis. I think taking charge of your own life is more important and life changing than letting others choose your life for you.

Let me recommend to you a writer's forum that I have belonged to for over 2 years now. They have a great research and query section for you to tap into a vast audience.

In answer to your question, when we let other's opinions or their voices take precedence over our own we lose our way.
